Very rare
Lot 103
LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 440/35-400 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.55 g, 11 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing helmet adorned, on the bowl, with Skylla raising her right hand as if to shade her eyes as she looks off in the distance. Rev. [YEΛHTΩN] Lion attacking stag to left; behind to right, Δ. HN Italy 1270. Very rare. Thin flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This very unusual obverse die with a Skylla on Athena's helmet is clearly reminiscent of issues of Thourioi.
